Standard speed approaching the probe to the surface is 70 nm / ms (achieved with a radius of 50 nm nanocapillary using MNT-z positioner 25 microns). At a sampling rate of 20 kHz and the approach velocity of 100 nm / s vertical resolution up to 5 nm. Lateral resolution is determined by the size of the scan area, the number of pixels and the sample diameter (nanocapillary). Can be used nanocapillaries diameter of 30 nm. Nanocapillaries smaller diameter require less feed rate, resulting in slower scan.

Scanning particularly sensitive to mechanical and acoustic vibrations, as well as electromagnetic noise. Scan the above parameters can be achieved using anti-vibration equipment and electromagnetic shielding is achieved allowing <0.5pA noise (rms) at 200 kHz bandwidth.
